What Our Clients Say About Us?
Craig and Dianne – Cedar Grove
We are thrilled with the new fences and thank Jim and his super-efficient team for all their efforts. We really do appreciate it and have no hesitation in recommending your company to others – in fact we have had several people stop already and ask who did the fencing for us. We would also like to emphasise that we were extremely happy with the way you kept us informed throughout the process as to any alterations to the installation date – unfortunately in the past we have not had such good communication from some other trades people and this makes one rather jaded. Your team has restored our faith that some companies really do care!!!!!
Chris & Tracey Cedar Grove
We have been using Straight Up Fencing since we moved to Cedar Grove 8 years ago. The external dog proof fencing (split posts & ring lock), looks great and after 8 years the wire is still as tight as the first day. Jim also built a retaining wall out of sleepers and the latest job was 3 fantastic horse yards and an extension to the open stable. The materials that are used are of a very high quality to match the workmanship.
We trust Jim & Deb to come and go as they please whilst we are at work. Which says a lot as I don’t trust many people alone with my dogs and horses. I would not hesitate to recommend Straight Up Fencing. They are a great local family business.
Greg and Shannon Watson, Jimboomba
Searching for a contractor can often be quite daunting when you don’t know who is who or what is what and when so many companies are now outsourcing their work you just never know who and what quality you’re going to get. Needless to say we were delighted to stumble upon Straight Up Fencing who are a family owned and operated, exceptionally professional business.
Right from the very first phone call we were blown away by Deb’s friendly and yet professional manner, going out of her way to answer all our questions and provide us with the information we needed to make our decision. Our phone call was promptly followed up with a site visit from Jim who spent time walking us through our options (literally!), and explaining the installation process and reassuring us of the quality of the products he uses and why.
With only a short timeframe to have our fencing completed, Jim & Deb were more than accommodating and we now have a beautiful, quality built rural fence that I’m sure will be standing for decades to come.
Lydia & Charles Keating Greenbank

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What types of fencing do you offer?
Straight Up Fencing offers a wide range of fencing options, visit our services and gallery pages for the full list and visuals. Visit our Facebook page for regular fence completion photos – please make all enquiries via phone call only! We service areas surrounding Jimboomba to Boonah.
Are you licensed?
Yes, we are QBCC licensed. Any domestic work over $3,300 and agricultural purposes over $27,500, is required by law to be carried out by a current QBCC licensed holder. Straight Up Fencing meets this requirement to ensure quality and compliance.
What materials do you use for your fences?
We use the best “Fence Grade” timber available to us including ACQ treated hardwood and CCA treated pine. Sleepers used are “Retaining Wall” grade and are only required to have two good faces as standard. Higher grades of timber are available at additional costs. We predominantly use Australian steel products.
What are the differences between treated pine and treated hardwood?
Pine: Pine is a soft wood that allows treatment to soak through entirely, for this reason it makes a great option for termite areas. Because the wood is soft it is more susceptible to warping and cracking open, especially in drier times. While it does not affect the structural integrity, the cracks can become quite noticeable. Regular oiling or staining can help.
Hardwood: With hardwood being a denser wood, the treatment will soak through a thin layer only. The timber used is “Fence Grade”, generally a Class 2 in-ground so life expectancy is similar to treated pine. Hardwood may still warp or crack open, but not to the extent of pine. Again regular oiling or staining will help.
Do you provide per meter rates?
No, there are many different varying factors that go in to making up your final cost – terrain, length of runs, material type and access to name a few. For this reason we quote each project according to your individual requirements and cannot provide a per meter rate. However, we do provide free, no-obligation quotes.
How do you install your fences?
Posts are either rammed or concreted in, depending on the chosen style and terrain. Flat rails will be checked in to either the front or back face of the post and pine log rails will be cut and screwed to sit neatly to the top of the post. Chain wire and mesh type wires are usually attached across 3 horizontal points (rails and/or line wires) with the exception of top and bottom rail fences where it is usually across the two points.
What maintenance is required for your fences?
Regular maintenance is key to ensuring the longevity of your fence. We recommend inspecting your fence regularly for signs of wear or damage, applying protective treatments to any timber to maintain integrity, and keeping the fence line clear of debris and vegetation. This will all help with longevity and appearance.
Do you offer fencing solutions for different terrains?
Yes, we provide fencing solutions for varied terrains, including gullies and other challenging landscapes. Our team is experienced in handling different soil conditions and slopes to ensure your fence is secure and functional.
Can you help with fencing for livestock?
Yes, we offer specialised fencing for livestock, including cattle, horses, and other animals. Our fencing solutions include round yards, horse yards, and creating paddocks with various options of posts, rails and wires available to ensure the safety and security of your livestock.
What types of gates do you offer?
We offer a variety of gates including timber gates, bar gates, mesh gates, security gates, and custom gates made from galvanized or black chain wire. Our gates are designed to complement our fencing and provide secure access points.
Electric, solar or aluminium gates will need to be sought and installed through a gate specialist.
What is the difference between ramming and concreting posts?
Ramming involves boring a pilot hole into the ground and then hitting the post in with a dedicated machine, resulting in a firm hold without the need for concrete. This method allows for immediate continuation of the fencing process. Concreting involves setting posts in concrete, which can trap water and cause rot over time. The disposal of concrete if required in the future can be a huge cost due to landfill/environmental levies. Depending on the application, ramming is preferred for its efficiency and long-term durability.
What areas do you service?
We service areas from Jimboomba to Boonah and the surrounding regions. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, please call us to find out more.

Custom Fencing Solutions
Whether you need to keep cattle, horses, dogs, or children safe and secure, we offer a wide range of fencing options to suit your specific needs. From basic star picket fences to popular post and rail fencing and almost everything in between, we provide expert advice and solutions for every situation. Our gallery showcases the versatility and quality of our work Milford, with various styles and materials available to meet your unique requirements.
Quality and Care
We take immense pride in our work, ensuring that every fence we build is not only functional but also a fence you can admire. Our commitment to quality craftsmanship means your fence will stand the test of time, providing both security and beauty to your property.
Post ramming versus concreting
A common misconception is that concreting posts is superior to ramming. However, our experience shows that ramming offers a tight, longer-lasting solution without the risks of rot and decay associated with concrete. Concrete can also have environmental impacts and huge costs associated with any future disposal of old concrete when replacing fencing. Our dedicated machine and ramming technique allows for immediate progression to the next stage of fence construction, saving time while ensuring a firm post.
Neighborly Collaboration
Fencing can often involve shared boundaries with neighbours. We encourage clients to discuss and agree on styles and costs with their neighbours beforehand. For formal agreements, resources like the “Notice to Contribute for Fencing Work” form available at www.justice.qld.gov.au can be helpful.
